Barbara Jefferson Wins National Award
(Tulsa, OK) – Barbara Jefferson vied with hundreds of other staff members for the distinction of Leader of the Year in Direct Client Services from the Volunteers of America National Headquarters. Barbara has worked in the developmental disabilities field for 24 years, 22 of those years she has worked for Volunteers of America of Oklahoma. The parent of one of Barbara’s clients said it best when she stated that if they were to pass away, Barbara would be trusted to take her son as her own.
For these reasons Barbara deserves to be recognized for her dedication, motivation, sacrifice, and selflessness for oftentimes placing her client’s needs above her own. John Selph, Volunteers of America Oklahoma CEO says, “Barbara exemplifies the caring and compassion that we strive to provide for all of the people we serve. As an administrator, I only wish all of our employees could provide this level of commitment and caring to those individuals for whom we provide services.”
A parent of an individual on one of Barbara’s caseloads added, “Barbara not only knows our son by name; she knows his personality, his likes and dislikes and all the quirks that go with him and his various diagnoses. She knows his sense of humor and communicates with him in ways other program coordinators have not. Barbara spends precious time and works from the heart.”
