Payee Services helps adults manage finances
Setting a budget and paying bills is difficult for many people who have not acquired the skill or are challenged by substance abuse, mental illness and disability. As the state’s largest Organizational Representative Payee, Volunteers of America Oklahoma Payee Services provides money management services to individuals ensuring rent, utilities and basic needs are met to prevent eviction and homelessness.
How the program works
The Social Security Administration (SSA) recognizes Volunteers of America Oklahoma as an Organizational Representative Payee. Payee Services provides assistance to help adults manage their Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
Individuals 18 years of age and older who receives benefits from SSA is eligible for the program. Some participants are required by SSA to have a representative payee, while others may choose to have a representative payee . Volunteers of America Oklahoma's Payee Services program is voluntary; it is up to the individual to choose to use our services.
Once the client is enrolled, a dedicated Payee Services coordinator and the client set financial goals and a budget. The Social Security Administration directs benefits through Volunteers of America, on behalf of the client, to housing management and utility companies to ensure stable housing. Clients are provided a weekly disbursement through check or debit card for discretionary spending. A small fee is charged monthly to the client for service.
