Permanent Supportive Housing

As part of the Tulsa Continuum of Care network, Volunteers of America Oklahoma Permanent Supportive Housing provides full case management to single, homeless individuals with physical disabilities or mental illness and allows them live in their own fully subsidized apartment. Offering more than a roof over their heads, the program emphasizes case management tailored to meet needs resulting from the disability and to connect with available community resources. This program is available in Tulsa.

Permanent Supportive Housing is defined by HUD as Long Term Housing Assistance where supportive services are provided to assist homeless persons with a disability to live independently. Volunteers of America Oklahoma’s program provides transportation, daily case management, food assistance through our food pantry, and other vital supports such as daily life skills. Housing is provided in scattered site leasing. To help improve the lives of previously homeless and disabled individuals, we coordinate with other social service agencies to work towards participants becoming productive members of the community.

In addition, participants are referred to health care, mental health care, transportation, employment, legal services, food and clothing assistance, and substance abuse treatment and prevention. Case managers work hand in hand with participants to choose and work towards achievable goals for clients to become self-sufficient. Program graduates enter the workforce, attend college and reconnect with their families after years of estrangement.
