LAWTON, Okla. — Volunteers of America Oklahoma (VOAOK) announced they’re investing $2.1 million to support mothers and children in southwest Oklahoma. The nonprofit announced the award in a press release. It was made possible due to a combined effort from the Health Resources and Services Administration Rural Communities Opioid Response Program – Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (RCORP-NAS) and the Humana Foundation. RCORP-NAS provided a $1.5 million grant while Humana committed $600,000.  The money will be used to bring Family-Focused Recovery (FFR) to the region. This year marks VOA Oklahoma’s 30th anniversary. The nonprofit was established in 1993 to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and continues to provide 24/7 residential care for these individuals. It provides money management services to assist clients with bill payment, specifically rent and utilities, and training various budgeting skills — all with the intent to ensure rent is paid to avoid eviction. TULSA — Volunteers of America Oklahoma has received two grants totaling $2.1M to support mothers and their children in Southwest Oklahoma. Volunteers of America Oklahoma hosted the first in-person VOLUTE on April 22 at the Cox Business Convention Center. Named for an architectural element that embodies a forward, upward trajectory creating momentum and propelling all people to higher ground, the gala featured entertainment from Ann-Janette and the Evolution, Inspyral Circus and The Get Down. Emcee Dave Davis, co-anchor of KOTV’s Six in the Morning, led the program activities, including a live auction with auctioneer Roger Skelly.
